Recognizing that many seniors in our community are living at or below poverty level or are on a fixed income, we began The Good Shepherd ministry to help with basic needs.
Who qualifies? Seniors (65+) in Shenandoah County who are in need of additional support as identified by the Department of Social Services, Seniors First, nursing homes, local churches, parish nurses, or home health care providers.
What help is provided? Personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, paper goods like toilet paper and paper towels.
How often? Monthly
When and Where? Packed bags are delivered to DSS, nursing homes, and other caregivers on a monthly basis. Items are also available at the Seniors First Shenandoah Senior Center (First Baptist Church, 116 Lakeview Drive, Woodstock, VA 22664).
The Good Shepherd is our newest ministry. We currently provide approximately 65 care baskets to seniors on a monthly basis.
