Luke's Backpack Summer Food Program

All children under 18 years of age are invited to participate in the Luke’s Backpack Summer Program. This program provides a box of food weekly that includes breakfast and lunch items at no cost to you.  Luke’s Backpack provides the food boxes on a weekly basis to various pick-up sites throughout Shenandoah County. Your household is responsible for picking up the boxes each week from a site you select. To register children in your household, please fill out this enrollment form and email to us. This summer program will run from Tuesday, May 27 – Friday, August 8, 2025.

Luke’s Backpack provides food for children who have no or limited access to a food source during school weekends. School personnel identify students, who then receive a bag of food items to help sustain their nutritional needs throughout the weekend.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner items are included in each bag.  Bags are distributed to students every Friday during the school year.

Who qualifies?  Any student in Shenandoah County identified as food insecure by school personnel.

What help is provided?   A weekend's worth of nutritional food.

How often?  Weekly during the school year.

When and Where?   Packed bags are delivered to school campuses for school personnel to distribute to students on Fridays.
