A Small Hand is a specialist pantry for babies in need (newborn through 2 years old). The pantry started in 2010 as a ministry of Edinburg Christian Church to supplement available government assistance. On June 1, 2017, Shenandoah Valley Local Ministries "adopted" A Small Hand, committing to keeping this vital ministry operating on behalf of our community.
Who qualifies? Women and children (up through 2 years old) who are residents of Shenandoah County and are currently enrolled in the government supported Women, Infant, & Children (WIC) program.
What help is provided? A month's supply of disposable diapers and wipes. When available: formula, hygiene items (shampoo, lotion, bottle cleaners), blankets, pyjamas, books, and other items.
How often? Clients can visit each month until the child turns 3 years old.
When and Where? A Small Hand is open from 9-11am and 5-7pm the first two Thursdays of every month at Edinburg Christian Church (210 Center Street, Edinburg, VA 22824).
In 2010, during its first seven months of operation, A Small Hand served 280 children. In 2023, our A Small Hand ministry distributed 216,792 diapers.
